Hagan Scholarship otherwise known as Hagan Grant is a nationwide need-based merit grant that allows graduates to graduate college debt-free. Applicants must attend a regular public high school operated by a school district. Free courses, Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Study Abroad give beneficiaries with a practical understanding of vital life skills that are not often taught in schools. Recipients who graduate from college while enrolled in the Hagan Scholarship Program are eligible to apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship for up to four further consecutive semesters.
The Hagan Scholarship offers up to $7,500 per semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters, workshops to teach important life skills that are not typically covered in the college curriculum, funds to purchase college necessities, an HSF Schwab Brokerage Account to manage, funds to study and travel abroad, and the option to extend the Hagan Scholarship to obtain a graduate or professional degree.
- HSF will determine the disbursement amount each semester by taking the Total Cost of Attendance, which includes tuition, fees, room and board, books, supplies, personal and transportation costs, and deducting the total dollar amount of ALL scholarships, awards, grants, waivers, institution-provided work-study, and one-half of the recipient’s EFC. The EFC is not required to be paid; it is used just to determine the payout amount.
- The payout amount will be adjusted each semester to account for the expiration or loss of other scholarships, awards, grants, waivers, institutional work-study, and changes in the recipient’s EFC.
- If the winner meets the scholarship criteria and accomplishes the necessary workshop tasks, the Hagan Scholarship can be renewed for up to seven more consecutive semester. The Hagan Scholarship will be discontinued when the student graduates from college or earns 130 credit hours, whichever comes first. In this case, recipients will continue to manage their HSF Schwab Accounts and meet all other scholarship requirements until their Award Year Class graduates college. To receive money after graduation or after completing 130 credit hours, students must apply for and be awarded the Hagan Graduate Scholarship.
- First-year awardees receive $1,000 prior to college enrollment to purchase basic college things not covered by the scholarship, such as a computer, mobile phone, clothing, office supplies, and bedding.
- Second-year recipients will obtain a personal Schwab brokerage account. After the account is setup, HSF will deposit $100 and give each participant an HSF Schwab Brokerage Account to maintain until they graduate. The HSF funds administered by each recipient will be $10,000 the second year, $15,000 the third year, and $20,000 the fourth year.
- Third-year recipients with a 3.50 CGPA are eligible for an all-expense-paid study and travel abroad opportunity valued up to $8,000.Alternatively, the funds can be utilized to study abroad during the second semester of a third-year college program.
- Recipients who will graduate from college while participating in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship the semester before graduation, which is valid for up to four further consecutive semesters to attend graduate or professional school, with a maximum award of $7,500 per semester. Recipients must enroll in college as full-time graduate or professional students the first semester after receiving their undergraduate degree.
- Recipients must labor 240 hours per year, from January 1 until the start of the fall term at college. Work may be conducted at any moment throughout this period at the discretion of the recipient. Employment must consist of regularly planned work performed under supervision for compensation.
